Dr. Ashley Vanderburgh-Oakley is the founder of Juniper Equine Veterinary Services. Born and raised in King Township, Ontario, her passion for horses began at a young age and was fostered early on by her grandfather, a professional equine transporter.

A lifelong equestrian herself, Dr. Ashley has a background in eventing and dressage, and has a special appreciation for off-the-track Thoroughbreds. Her firsthand experience as both a rider and horse owner gives her a strong understanding of the relationships people build with their horses—whether they are trusted show partners, lesson horses, or beloved companions.

Dr. Ashley completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of Saskatchewan before earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from St. George’s University in Grenada in 2020. Becoming a veterinarian was a natural path that combined her love of animals with a passion for science and medicine. Ashley has deepened her knowledge of equine care through an equine focused internship after graduation, time spent in an ambulatory sports medicine practice as well as in a referral surgical facility, and working as a dedicated emergency and hospital doctor.

Dr. Ashley is committed to providing compassionate, practical, and evidence-based care while creating a supportive and approachable experience for horse owners. She believes strongly in clear communication, collaboration with clients, and treating every horse as an individual.

Through Juniper Equine Veterinary Services, Dr. Ashley’s goal is to build lasting relationships with clients based on trust, kindness, and high-quality care.

Outside of veterinary medicine, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two young children, riding, and unwinding with a good HBO series or documentary.
